Reigns: Game of Thrones is the third offshoot of the Reigns series developed by Nerial and Devolver Digital. While in the original game asking, he guided the fortunes of his empire and in the second part of Reign: Her Majesty then played as queen, now the characters from the HBO series Game of Thrones turn. You play alternately as Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow or Sansa Stark and may take as this character temporarily on the iron throne place.
The game is designed like its predecessors in an appealing minimalist look. Fans of the TV series will recognize the well-known characters immediately and also look forward to the musical accompaniment of the soundtrack by Ramin Djawadi. In terms of content, the game ties in with the end of the seventh season. Who does not want to be spoiled, should have seen the series so far. After that, the game unfolds in a series of scenarios according to the motto “What if …”
A Wipe With Fatal Consequences
The Principle of Reigns: Game of Thrones is very simple: you go through a story based on different maps depicting characters from the Game of Thrones world. Each card offers two answer options, which you can select by swiping left or right, with all the consequences that result. Any action can mean the (sometimes cruel) end of the current ruler. In Reigns: Game of Thrones, as in the previous parts, you have four parameters in mind: the military, the church, the people, and the treasury. Each decision affects one or more parameters. As soon as one area rises too high or falls too low, the fate of the king or queen is sealed. But do not worry: you just play with the next character – or with the same character.
When a ruler dies, you see through Melisande’s visions in the fire to buy the next ruler – there are a total of nine to choose from, which can be unlocked in the course of the game. Once a character is unlocked, you can choose him again and again as a ruler, and bring about new decisions to another fate. Incidentally, the fates already discovered can be viewed in an overview. At the same time, this increases the ambition to discover the missing events and sometimes consoles them when the regency is too short due to a careless act.
New Game Mechanics In Reigns: Game Of Thrones
For each of the playable characters, you can unlock a feature in the game that can save that character from a particular fate. So Tyrion cannot go bankrupt once its special property is discovered and Cersei will not mind the Church’s disregard. In this way, new dynamics arise and one becomes freer in some decisions because one can ignore their consequences.
Incidentally, you do not have to be afraid of making the wrong decisions. Sooner or later, each card will reappear and you can choose the other option. However, this also means that many scenarios are repeated many times without any clear progress. After all, a list shows what tasks are coming up. But that does not mean that the necessary maps appear immediately – they appear randomly. So patience is needed if you want to go through the whole game and unlock all options.
Compared to the previous Reigns offshoots Reigns: Game of Thrones but also offers new mechanics that provide some variety in the flow of the game. So you can participate in a tournament, steer the fates on the battlefield or beating in the tavern. Schick: The different places where the action can take place, are represented by stylized backgrounds in the app, which are particularly good in landscape format on the tablet to its best advantage. On the smartphone, on the other hand, they are only briefly visible, while the scenery changes.
Reigns: Game of Thrones takes you into the world of Game of Thrones in a minimalist yet riveting manner. The game is great for bridging the eighth season wait a bit. You can easily play in between a few rounds, but also quite long in the app lose. However, in the face of repetitive scenarios, patience and perseverance are needed if you want to unlock all the characters and finally survive the winter.
